I was working with the CoolMenus menu system by Thomas Brattli earlier. Although the script is an excellent piece of work, trying to use CSS to control the display of it is pure hell. You have to go directly into the code to modify a large part of the way the menu is displayed, and that’s simply not an acceptable approach to the particular problem that I happened to be facing; the client wants to be able to alter the content of the menu. Brattli’s menus are absolutely positioned, and therefore cannot be put into the flow of a liquid page.
After searching SourceForge.net unsuccessfully (SourceForge is where I usually end up finding solutions to my problems, it’s a great place), Google finally yielded a workable solution to me found at Juicy Studio by Gez Lemon. A link to the working demo of the menus is here. Thank you, Gez! You’ve saved me from using Javascript and writing my own

Finally. I have my voice back. I thought it had taken a permanent hiatus. Two and a half weeks. I understand the life of a mute now. It’s rather tiring, having to mime everything. And people think that if you can’t speak, you can’t hear. What’s up with THAT? *nosewrinkle*
Okay, Tuesday, January 25th — I finally have a day off from werk (supposedly). Perhaps I can once again work on some D:C:U stuff. We’ll see as the night presses on. For now, I’m going into the hot tub. My left knee has been…I don’t know the word…suddenly-causing-me-pain…for the last couple of days.
I’ll be walking along, fine and dandy, and all of a sudden it’ll hurt quite a bit and decide not to hold up my weight (I’ve lost 7 pounds, so I know that’s not the problem). I’m not understanding this. Is it something to do with my recent illness? I don’t want to go to the doctor again…I’ve shelled out quite enough money for the moment, I think. Hopefully this…this THING…will disappear within the next couple of weeks.
Oh, one more thing. It looks like there may be a job opening for a company called TechData near me in the next month. I’m going to apply there, maybe they’ll even take me in. I can’t, of course, write about what goes on inside the company here…but I can still write that I’m going to try for the position
If I do get the position, my schedule will actually coincide with my natural circadian rhythm. I’ll get to work at night, and sleep during the day. Much more to my liking. Cross your fingers, paws, chopsticks, etc. for me!!!

13 days now, and I still don’t have my voice back. In fact, today was the first day that I could even whisper. I’m starting to wonder if it’s ever going to come back, but the whispering seems to be some sort of progress, so…
3 more days of the death pills, then I’m done with them. Thank goodness. I’d like the voice back, though.
Spencer Gifts Underground sent me some cards today. I don’t exactly know what they’re for yet, but I’m supposed to show them when I go to Spencer’s for some reason. I guess they’re frequent shopper cards or something. Not that I shop there frequently, but hey.

WOW!!! I was digging even further into the Wir Sind Helden website, and (Dorothy is pretty cute, by the way) I found some music videos that they put together. One of real life (the one for Denkmal) and another that’s a Flash animation…absolutely wonderful music, absolutely amazing videos.
Although the Denkmal song seems pretty laid back to me, in the video hundreds of people are shouting out a chorus in German and raising their arms and headbanging…the song must rile up sort of feeling!!!!! Dorothy sure knows how to rock (I have no idea what her real name is, but Dorothy seems as good as any) and you get to see Jesus naked. A little scary, but… *shrugs*
Ah. Found links just now. See the Denkmal video hier und die Aurélie video hier.

I was talking to a complete stranger tonight on the Interweb, and he pointed me to a couple of very good songs in German. One song is about a guy who was walking on the beach, when all of a sudden he finds a whale. The chorus of the song is “Push the whale back into the sea” or something like that. The other…well, I’m not quite sure. Here are the songs and the people that made them:
Walkampf - Die Toten Hosen
Denkmal - Wir Sind Helden
…while writing this entry, I was looking for the Denkmal makers, and the link to their site to give them proper credit. I visited the site, saw the choice between HTML and Flash, chose Flash…and my first impression of the page was this:
Dorothy, from the Wizard of Oz, meets Jesus, a Jehovah’s Witness, and Jeff Foxworthy. I sense the beginning of some sort of strange joke there…
