A New Slice of Life

On Thursday, August 4th, I took my last class at HCC.

On Sunday, August 14th, it was my birthday.
“2005 - Helios Airways Flight 522 crashes north of Athens, killing the 121 on board.” What a strange coincidence, since I’m a member of Helios Interactive.

On Monday, August 15th, I started a new job with a PEO. I’m really enjoying it so far, I’m trying to learn the software that the company uses for its daily functions. There’s so much documentation available that it’s not even funny. I really, truly, honestly think that it will take me AT LEAST six months to go through all of the documentation, and even after that, I’m sure that I’ll have to pull out some useful pieces and keep them around for reference.

I learned the first thing NOT to do at the company today as well. Somebody showed me a flyer, asked for my advice (the company doesn’t have a marketing department), and I gave it to him. That was fine and dandy. He said that I sounded like I had a passion for flyer design (I have a passion for MOST things computer, including design), and I said that I did, and I told him a few other things he could do to maybe make it better. I even offered to take it home and work with it a little bit to show him what a few different options would look like, since they don’t have the software at the business that is necessary to produce the options I wanted to display. I then learned from my lead (and I thank you, you know who you are! :)) that the company would MOST LIKELY (ahem) see it as being in my best interest to concentrate on reading all of that documentation instead. Note to self: don’t think outside of my department. For now, instead of trying to think outside the box and help out, I’ll just stick to the documentation.

I also forgot to take my lunch to work today. Bummer :( Oh well, there’s always other days ;)
